Our vision is to re-establish reciprocal relationships with the land and the life that it supports by creating opportunities for people to engage with curiosity and reverence
We nurture this vision, first and foremost, by tending our urban farm replete with vegetable gardens, orchards, medicinal and native plants, dairy goats, laying hens, a pot-bellied pig, topbar beehives, and wildlife. We also host educational workshops, provide locally adapted seeds and nursery plants, supply a year round farm stand with fresh produce and medicines, and celebrate our abundance with farm to table dinners.
We are always growing here at Smokebrush Farm, tending to the land in a way that honors its rhythms, harmonies, and cycles. We see the farm as an organism: a whole with interconnected parts. Soil health is key to human health; we consider all the unsung heroes living under our feet when we work the land to produce food. We do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides; instead we rely on our own homemade composts and soil preparations to support belowground biodiversity.
What’s in a name? Organic, Sustainable, Regenerative, Permaculture, Biodynamic, No-Till… While we grow with techniques and inspiration from each one of these movements, we acknowledge that all of them are rooted in an ancient and complex history. Rather than labeling ourselves by any one of these modern movements, we remember that every seed and growing method is bestowed upon us from a long line of forgotten farmers and land-tenders.
